£3295 Days • 29 Oct - 2 Nov
The delightful town of Ludlow with its spectacular castle lies in the Marches, the region flanking the England/Wales border. This is a tour full of fun and interest in one of England’s most beautiful counties. Pleasant local excursions will be combined with evening activities including our very own ‘Antiques Roadshow’ and ‘Murder Mystery’ night in this cosy, historic hotel right in the town centre.
Monday, 29 October
We depart and travel south where we take a break at the RAF Cosford Museum an award winning attraction in the West Midlands. We continue to Ludlow for 4 nights half board accommodation at the historic Feathers Hotel, the fifth oldest Inn in England. After dinner a local guide will give an introductory talk on Ludlow and Shropshire.
Tuesday, 30 October
With the services of a local tour guide we drive through Leominster and many unspoilt villages known as the ‘Black & White Trail’. In the evening at the hotel there will be an ‘Antiques Roadshow’. We invite you to bring along a small item of curiosity (not too valuable!) for discussion with a local antiques dealer.
Wednesday, 31 October
Today we enjoy a free morning in Ludlow where it is market day. We recommend a visit to the beautiful Parish Church and take a stroll through the narrow streets as far as the castle. In the afternoon we transfer to the Ludlow Food Centre a showcase for local foodstuffs, some of which is produced on the premises. A short talk will be given and some samples will be available for tasting. A local quiz will be held at the hotel after dinner.
Thursday, 1 November
Today we travel north, stopping first in Craven Arms for a visit to the Secret Hills Discovery Centre, giving an insight into the lovely Shropshire Hills. Part of the visit includes a simulated balloon flight. We continue to Church Stretton, which has, a delightful antiques centre housing thousands of reasonably priced items. The afternoon will then be spent in the historic town of Shrewsbury. Tonight will feature a Murder Mystery evening at the hotel when a local amateur group will present a plot for the sleuths in the group to solve.
Friday, 2 November
We depart after breakfast and travel via the interesting town of Llangollen where we include a cruise over the spectacular Pontcysyllte Aquaduct (the canal in the sky) with mince pies and mulled wine included. Later in the day we make our way home arriving into our local area late afternoon.
